A mix of boredom and because soopy told me too, I make a post.
And with this post I shall rant. Well rant is a bit of a negative word but apporpiate none the less. I just want talkabout this neat, some what old, anime I found and got introduced to by 4chan. It is called GaoGaiGar.
First and foremost, this is a super robot show. Not a real robot show. Don't expect a heart wrenching drama, a knock over plot or robots that make sense. This show is all about awesome robots doing what they do best, make the biggest explosions possible in style and looking extremely cool while doing so.
And now a little history to better your understand. GaoGaiGar is part of the Brave Series of super robot shows. It originally started with King Exkaiser. That in itself was started back when Takara, the toy company know for the transformer toyline, was losing the popularity of the transformers after the animated series. So they struck a deal with Sunrise, know for thier gundam franchise and for robots in general, to create an anime series tie in to form a new toy line. King Exkaiser was a hit with the kids and Takara was happy. After every series, Sunrise would make a new show in the same line with a different continuity. GaoGaiGar happens to be the last in the line. GGG is a little different in that it's a bit more serious and got more attention from the Brave fans that grew up. GGG wasn't such a big hit with the kids so Takara just stopped evidently.
The premise of the series is fairly simple. These living machine beings are trying to take over the world by converting humans into Zonders. They usually cause trouble in some shape or form and turn in to giant mechanaloids which is when GaiGar becomes GaoGaiGar and starts to kick ass.
This may sound like usually kiddy fare robots but the plot spreads out with each episode so you have to keep with it to experience the full affect of awesomeness in the robots and the plot. It was described as on 4chan that ep 1-31 your like hey, this is cool and 32-49 HOLY SHIT this is awesome. I made the mistake of watching FINAL with was and 8 ep OVA which concluded it. FINAL is without a doubt awesome to the infinityth degree.
If your a toy person this series can make you feel like a kid again but still keep you manly dignity due to its greatness. The robots are of a really cool design. You have Galeon which is a mecha lion from space that can combine with a shikasen(sp) train, a drill tank and a stealth bomber to be come GaoGaiGar. And then you have the Yuusha or Brave robots which are baisicly transformers in that they operate based on an AI and transform between a robot and a truck type vehicle. One of my favorites is Mic Sounder the 13 who transforms from a silly looking jukebox into a rockstar mech.
A motivational poster that just makes me giggle.
So I didn't really go anywhere with this post but I feel good advocating GGG's existence.

Some random pictures to show of coolness. The awesomeness of GaoGaiGar would make me buy those ciggaretes but only to show off. Not to smoke. That's not the actually art style of the show but it still looks epic.
