hollywood sucks

so,

last year, hollywood released "stealth," a movie about a jet with an ai that caused it to turn evil (very eerily similar to macross plus.)

well, earlier tonight,

saw a commercial for "pulse"

a movie that starts with a guy who dies

and then a couple of days later,

his friends get emails from him

anyone else find this pattern disgusting?

and why isn't monster out yet?

1 Comments:

  • lol!
All I can say is L-O-L

(oh, and I'm sure Monster is coming out soon. If not I'll find you one thats already been produced in America, though that will be tough considering how ‘recent’ Monster is.)

    On Pulse

"There are some frequencies we were never meant to find"
    (I'll say! ^pun intended^)

"Imagine our wireless technologies made a connection to a world beyond our own. Imagine that world used that technology as a doorway into ours. Now, imagine the connection we made can't be shut down. When you turn on your cell phone or log on to your e-mail, they'll get in, you'll be infected and they'll be able to take from you what they don't have anymore -- life."

    Eiri Want Life!

Now all we need is references to the lambda calculus and "Apple's" Copland Enterprises.

    Uber Phantom - mmmm check?
    Crying Girl - C-H-E-C-K
Dr. Waterson - a Dr... check?
    Goth Girl - esq check
Male Phantom Hands - O_O ... CHECK PLUS!

'Bob Weinstein canceled the film considering it to be too similar to The Ring'
    LOL too similar, huh?

    The Real Remake

Actually, its not a remake_of/retelling_of/’inspired by’ SE. Lain!
It’s a remake of Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Circuit aka ‘Kairo’ (Horror that scares best if you ‘think’ (which Asian films tend to do well, compared to the common American sudden scare scenes).

Kairo is a film where it relies heavily on concepts, both horrific and intellectual. It is a social allegory in a horror wrapper. It is not really the best film to market as a "horror" movie too.

Ok.. so it IS a REMAKE
I knew Hollywood was remaking 'Battle Royal', but 'A Tale of Two Sisters' (and more)!? Stealing one of Koreas said finest 'Extreme'-side films? Hollywood is taking from everyone! Why not just re-release them.. wait their Hollywood!

Apparently rumor says there’s going to be a remake of ‘Chakushin Ari’ (which I haven’t seen, but suggests I might re-check the synopsis. Oldboy’ they can take, it seemed to ‘borrow’ successful character types and concepts from several other Asian films. Not much new, but still a good overview of successful Asian film practices. (‘Ring’, several ‘Killer ichi’ style-esq/similarities.)

That’s a project Hollywood should start … ‘Ichi the Killer lol, that would be amusing to see Hollywood’s take on it. I’d gladly propose a remake just to see Hollywood’s ‘interpretation’/(what the would savage). That or some of the other ‘interesting’ movies that have been brought to America by TLA and others, such as ‘Jisatsu Circle’. Or maybe some ‘reasonable ones’ such as Ishii’s ‘Shark Skin Man and Peach Hip Girl’ ^_^; or maybe ‘Cha no aji’ but probably not. I still need to get a-hold of ‘Party 7’ .. and I’ve been trying to avoid searching through Film Festival compilation releases @_@... any takers? How bout’ Takashi Miike, or more of Takeshi Kitano’s films?

!! Did you realize Takashi Miike did Salaryman Kintaro(animation ver)?!!!
That and ‘Zebraman’(for ‘kids’)! That’s messed up! That’s like Johnen’ doing ‘Invader Zim’ (though more understandable). It’s not exactly ‘messed up’ to me .. rather it makes perfect sense, but the facts are quite amusing.

o Everything is inspired by something, most things are ‘based’ on another. Its not that big of a deal, but when something directly takes from another, and does not hold ground on its own… that’s when issues arise.

I remember being pleasantly surprised when I randomly ran across the ‘Skyhigh’ manga’s film (I guess 2-3 years ago) at blockbuster. I never knew it had been adapted to a film, the TV series yes, the film no. It was decent, not amazing but decent, why not try that Hollywood? Or is it a no because people already know that its been brought to America from Japan?

o I’m not exactly against remakes of foreign films. I guess I would say there aren’t many cases where I would suggest a film, but when a film I enjoyed is remade I will typically be willing to see it. (Then make fu- *ahem* critique it afterward) I’m glad some films are remade because it introduces new viewers to previously ‘unheard of ‘ films.

Still this is quite amusing, and pops up from time to time.. (No offense intended)
